House of Waris

House of Waris

The art of craftsmanship:

I have been meaning to blog about this brand for a while now, better late than never. When visiting the Chanel Little Black Jacket exhibition in London (See blog link here), I came across this portrait of a man wearing a Turban and an easily noticeable iconic Chanel tweed jacket. Being a British Indian, I was fascinated to find out more about this guy, and was disappointed that I have never come across him or his work before.

Waris Ahluwali is an Indian American known for his acting and his career as a designer. After moving to Brooklyn, NYC at the age of five with his family, he has established his name and brand House of Waris to growing industry of fashion. Since his brand success, he has teamed up with a variety of influential fashion brands and icons to collaborate on collections, from scarves to sunglasses.

From statement rings to design influences highlighted from the Sikh religion his fine jewellery has become a very popular name for the Hollywood elite. His method of creativity lies more elements that just style, "I’m a storyteller, before anything else, and I’m an explorer—that’s why we’re here,”.

Known as the man of many talents from his acting career, to his flourish fine jewellery line, impact in the fashion industry and never ending research on his mother land of India, its hard not to be capture into his talented ways. Waris Ahluwali was recently apart of American high-street brand 'Gap's' new advertising campaign, a company thats know to embrace colour to their advertisement campaigns.

My interest and awareness to jewellery has really developed over the last few months, I love discovering new brands, styles and crafts. Designing jewellery is what I call a form of art, there's got to be a depth of story, an element of glamour and a design of prestige. -

Beyonce for H&M Collection

Beyonce for H&M Collection

The unveiling of the full campaign:

High street summer fashion just got a whole lot of diva added to the mixture. It has been confirmed that Beyonce Knowles is the new face of high street fashion store H&M. The full campaign has finally been revealed, confirming the singers appearance, after earlier online speculation of her new partnership. The unstoppable Beyonce is photographed modelling a series of bikinis and beachwear inspired by her individual style. It has been said that the former Destiny Childs band member had included personal input into the pieces for the campaign.

Shot in the exotic backdrop of the Bahamas, Beyonce works the series of bikinis and beachwear embracing her phenomenal hour glass figure. The ad campaign will feature the name of her up and coming world tour 'Beyonce as Mrs Carter in H&M' for her summer collection.

After taking a break after the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy Carter from the hectic celebrity lifestyle, Beyonce is definitely showing the world that she is back and ready for business.  With her name being in the height of the news from her documentary debut, British and American Vogue Cover shoot and show stopping Super Bowl performance.

"I've always liked H&M's focus on fun affordable fashion. I really loved the concept we collaborated on to explore the different emotions of women represented by the four elements - fire, water, earth and wind. It was a beautiful shoot on a tropical island. It felt more like making a video than a commercial."-Beyonce Knowles.

This has to be one of H&M's best collaborations and campaign, it is fresh, vibrant and natural truly engaging in the woman that Beyonce Knowles most definitely is. It represents and embraces a whole new level of beauty from the exotic and peaceful set location. After a speculation of rumors and online leaks, its good to finally be able to see the truth and full outcome of this campaign. Can't wait to catch the collection in store.-

Sophie Webster

Sophie Webster

Emerging new talent:

When I first came across Sophie Webster's shoes designs at the end of 2012, there was only one delicious word that came to my mind...Candy. Bright, bold and beautiful, bursting with sweetness with their electric colours and fantasy fairy-tale like finishing. I just loved them, nothing like the world had every seen before, a whole new breadth of footwear, thats fun, quirky and yet flawlessly elegant.

Sophie Webster is exploding out on to the fashion scene, with her impeccable footwear designs after being mentored by Nicolas Kirkwood, she is now breaking out to create her own brand. Being spotted by Nicholas Kirkwood and his business partner, while attending Royal College of Art and winning two separate competitions that Kirkwood had judged. Webster soon went on to becoming Kirkwoods design assistant, a remarkable opportunity for a newcomer. Following her experience under Nicolas Kirkwood's wing, Sophie Webster made sure that her experience allowed her to absorb as much direction and knowledge as she could possible could obtain from footwear guru himself and his team.

Nicholas Kirkwood describes her as "She has a unique way of looking at things. There is a maturity and complexity in her designs, but they are still youthful."

With the help of Kirkwood and his business partner Christopher Suarez, Sophie Webster was able to launch her pre-spring'13 collection of her made-in-brazil label, this had retailers eager to learn more. With a great platform of launch for her brand, Webster has been picked up by renowned international retailers, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harvey Nichols, Net-a-Porter, Browns London and Colette in Paris. Her accessories collection which includes, high heels, flat shoes, clutches and mini handbags, is priced between £150-£450.

The overwhelming response of retailers was definitely a dream come true for Sophie Webster, who truly feels thankful for her successful break into the fashion world. "I'm really pleased and so flattered that this level of retailers and buyers are supportive and they got it," she said of her collection, though the level of success is still unreal. "It's going really fast, but I'm enjoying every minute." Being new to the world of fashion, and only 2 collection established, she still believes she has a lot still to prove and offer the retailers that believed in her and consumers that took a risk in wearing her shoes.
I truly think her collection is irresistible, as with many other brands you can be satisfied with just one shoe from each brand, but with Sophie Webster the choice is endless and totally tempting. Each of her designs holds a new element of excitement. I believe that shoes are a major factor to anyones outfit, be it casual or glamour, they can enhance your style attitude to its highest peak of luxury.
Every women undeniable has a fetish for shoes, and there is simple no cure for it then satisfying your craving. Be sure to watch out and indulge into a pair of Sophie Webster heels.-

(Vogue Shoot: 2012)

Emilio Pucci designs for Rita Ora's
Radioactive tour

The newest British artists to storm the music world, with her honey suckle tone of voice, her stand-out golden blonde hair and her unmissable luscious red lips, singer song-writer Rita Ora. After being discovered by hip-hop rapper Jay Z, in 2009 he signed the London based singer to his music label Roc Nation. Her debut album Ora in 2012, exploded on the UK charts at number 1, with her success spreading fast and effectively it was only a matter of time till the fashion world also got involved.

Known for her unique style and great passion for fashion, Rita has always said that growing up she has experimented and paid attention to what and how she wears her clothes. When it comes to music, fashion is always immediately as significant to the artist and the industry. Fashion helps in enhancing the artists individuality, creating a style which would help in reflecting their music style, personality and expression. From day 1 Rita Ora has captured her style and image in the way that she wants to be represented, keeping true to her roots of street style and adding a hint of glamour.
To kick start her 1st tour "Radioactive", the 22 year olds costumes have been designed by Italy's Emilio Pucci. Emilio Pucci is known for its geometric prints and amazing drape, style creative director Peter Dundas has worked closely with Rita Ora in order to create a series of outfits that "perfectly echo her unique take on urban glamour".
Rita Ora's tour 1st show took place last night in Manchester, where she wore her custom made Emilio Pucci costumes. Rita Ora's Radioactive tour costumes included metallic armour-inspired bodice, a military camouflage jumpsuit and a flowing golden cape. Her costumes definitely represent the powerful woman and artists that she is, after phenomenal success in just under a year. With Rita Ora being fashion conscious and aware its only natural to see her superstardom to also effect the fashion industries most powerful.

John Galliano makes his return...

John Galliano is set to make his return...

The British born designer is set to make his return to the fashion world, with a temporary stay at Oscar De La Renta's studio in New York City.

In March 2011 John Galliano was fired from the House of Dior, after an incident that took place in a Paris cafe, where Galliano was caught and recorded making anti-Semitic expressing to customers. This spread worldwide, celebrities that had previously trusted in Galliano's work and wore his pieces with pride, were disappointed and disgusted by his behavior. The house of Dior took quick action in cutting John Galliano from their team, to protect the respect of their brand.

The fashion world knew that they were loosing a true master-mind, with his amazing innovated designers and constant surprise of style. Since he joined Christian Dior in 1996 Galliano undeniably made his mark on the industry, transforming the way in which Dior Haute Couture was presented, with unforgettable drama and theatrical dazzle. His flair was most definitely iconic, a huge fan of his work, I was truly devastated and disappointed by the way he departed from the industry.

After a much needed break from the fashion industry, Galliano has decided that 2013 is his year to return. He has confirmed that he will spend the next three weeks with Oscar De La Renta as he prepares for his upcoming New York Fashion Week show.

Oscar De La Renta has expressed that "John and I have known each other for many years and I am a great admirer of his talent. He has worked long and hard on his recovery and I am happy to give him the opportunity to re-immerse himself in the world of fashion and re-acclimate in an environment where he has been so creative."

Galliano has previous told WWD that he is an alcoholic. He has spent the last 2 years in recovery, he has said that it was the disease that caused his outburst in Paris. He has tried to apologise for his words and the hurt he has caused to the Jewish community, and wishes to try and amend all that he has done.

I was overly ecstatic about this news, I knew there would come a time when John Galliano would return to the fashion world offering us once again his magic and creative aptitude... Excited to see what he comes up with next! -★

"I am grateful to Oscar beyond words for inviting me to spend time with him in the familiar surroundings of a design studio, His support and faith in me is humbling" John Galliano.
